China’s Communist Party has begun selecting delegates for its 21st national congress, which is scheduled for the second half of 2027 in Beijing. A party official said on November 8 that 2,360 places would be filled across 38 electoral units. That is 60 more places than the party set for its previous congress.
The process takes place within the party. Local and other party bodies nominate and vet candidates before delegates are elected. At the congress, the delegates will elect a new Central Committee and a new Central Commission for Discipline Inspection, the party’s disciplinary watchdog. [evidence-1]
