Three people suffered minor injuries in Japan’s Shizuoka Prefecture after an earthquake struck the western part of the prefecture early on November 8, local authorities said in a 4 p.m. update. The prefecture reported one injury each in Hamamatsu, Kakegawa and Mori.
The Japan Meteorological Agency put the preliminary magnitude at 5.7 and the depth at 41 kilometres. The quake struck at about 1:04 a.m. local time. The strongest recorded shaking was in Chita, in neighbouring Aichi Prefecture, where it reached 5-upper on Japan’s seismic intensity scale. The agency said there was no tsunami threat.
Shizuoka officials said a rockfall restricted traffic to one lane on a municipal road in Hamamatsu. They reported no abnormalities at the Hamaoka nuclear power station and no change in radiation readings at monitoring posts. [evidence-1] [evidence-2]
