20 October 2026 | Andhra Pradesh | Analysis and explainer
Andhra Pradesh's urban election picture is still taking shape. The published calendar sets 21 October for withdrawals and the final candidate lists, followed by polling on 28 October and counting on 30 October. As of this update, KROV has not obtained a complete official statewide withdrawal register, final candidate roster or uncontested-result abstract. Reports of accepted nominations and uncontested wins must therefore be read at their stated stage.
No complete, authenticated party-wise withdrawal total was available in the material reviewed. That does not mean no withdrawals have occurred. A party asking a nominee to stand down is different from the returning officer recording a withdrawal. Similarly, an accepted nomination is not automatically a place on the final ballot.
The urban deadline should not be confused with the separate MPTC/ZPTC schedule: nominations run from 21 to 23 October, withdrawals end on 27 October, polling is on 3 November and counting on 5 November. This update concerns urban nomination-stage developments; it is not an Assembly election report or a complete rural-election return.
Chittoor district: Nagari reported uncontested
V6 Velugu's 19 October report says TDP's Srinivasan was elected uncontested as Nagari municipal chairperson. KROV has not obtained the signed returning officer's declaration. The status is therefore an attributed news report, rather than an independently certified result in this article. It concerns the chairperson post, not every municipal ward.
Prakasam district: three valid nominations reported in Darsi
A 20 October report in The New Indian Express, citing the election officer's Form IV, names three valid chairperson nominations: P Venkatesh of TDP, Daram Subba Rao of Jana Sena, and A Ch Venkateswara Reddy. The report does not establish a party affiliation for the third person and says no YSRCP candidate filed for this post. KROV has read the reporting, not the underlying Form IV.
This scrutiny-stage account does not establish an uncontested Darsi result. The absence of a YSRCP nomination alone cannot establish that only one candidate remains. The reported presence of both TDP and Jana Sena nominations also needs to be checked against the final withdrawal list before describing the alliance's settled contest.
Visakhapatnam: scrutiny figures are not final ballot figures
A 19 October Deccan Chronicle report quoting the returning officer says 21 of 29 mayoral nominations were valid and eight were rejected. Its party breakdown is Congress six, YSRCP three, TDP two, independents seven, and one each for BSP, BCY Party and Praja Prasthanam Party. These are reported valid nominations at scrutiny, not a verified list of 21 final contestants or district-wide ward totals.

Tirupati: twelve valid mayoral nominations reported
Andhra Jyothy's 20 October report says 12 of 24 mayoral nominations survived scrutiny. It lists TDP three; YSRCP, BSP, CPI, CPM and Congress one each; other parties two; and independents two. This article does not identify a final candidate from those figures: the signed post-withdrawal list has not been obtained.
The reported TDP–Jana Sena–BJP leadership agreement allocates 89 urban bodies to TDP, 25 to Jana Sena and nine to BJP, across 123 bodies. That is a broader leadership arrangement than the current 100-body polling round; it is not a certified ward-wise allocation. The final local lists are needed to establish which overlapping nominations remain.
KROV analysis: wait for the local records
The useful next check is each returning officer's recorded withdrawals, final contesting-candidate list and any uncontested-election declaration. Without those documents, KROV cannot responsibly offer a confirmed statewide candidate roster or uncontested-seat total. The four district snapshots above show available reporting, not complete district coverage. Missing records mean information is unverified, not that nominations, withdrawals or wins are zero.
