21 October 2026 | Andhra Pradesh | News explainer
IMD's 21 October outlook, issued at 13:30 IST, forecasts a new low over the southeast and adjoining eastcentral Bay around 23 October, followed by northwestward movement and possible strengthening. Model guidance points towards north Andhra Pradesh–south Odisha. It does not confirm a named cyclone or exact landfall.
Two weather systems should not be confused
The same outlook identifies a separate existing low-pressure area over the southwest Bay and adjoining Tamil Nadu coast. Its model discussion suggests westward movement across southern India without further intensification. The possible new system around 23 October is a different development.
IMD Amaravati's 21 October warning page lists heavy rain, thunderstorms, lightning and strong surface winds for Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Rayalaseema. Thunderstorm and strong-wind warnings continue for 22–23 October. These are regional warnings; they do not mean every district will receive heavy rain.
The 13:30 IST Amaravati fishermen bulletin lists no Andhra-coast-specific warning for 21–25 October, but gives separate warnings for offshore Bay areas. For 25 October, parts of the eastcentral and adjoining southeast Bay may see winds of 45–55 km/h, gusting to 65 km/h. An Andhra-coast entry marked Nil must not be treated as clearance for every offshore route. Check the latest area-specific advisory before sailing.
The reviewed outlook does not settle a named cyclone, exact landfall district, landfall date or local impact. KROV will distinguish forecasts from observed development. This update reflects the cited 21 October bulletins; later IMD and local-authority notices may change the picture.
