The Central Industrial Security Force has replaced its territorial command arrangement with a functional sector-based structure from November 1, according to an official announcement. Units will be supervised by the type of installation they protect, rather than a territorial headquarters overseeing diverse industries.
The structure includes Power-I in New Delhi, Power-II in Kolkata, Coal in Ranchi, Steel in Bhilai, Petroleum and Natural Gas in Guwahati, and separate West Coast and East Coast Port sectors in Mumbai and Chennai. A New Delhi sector covers government buildings, museums, monuments and mass rapid transit systems.
These join the aviation sectors, functional since 2001, and the Department of Atomic Energy and Department of Space sector, operational since 2018. The Home Ministry concurred with the restructuring, the release says.
CISF says specialisation should improve coordination with client organisations and ministries, decision-making and sector-specific risk management. The release also identifies drones, cyber risks and emergency planning as areas requiring attention.
The confirmed change is the command structure taking effect. The announcement does not provide measured reductions in incidents, a recruitment figure or a new public entry procedure. Expected improvements in efficiency and security remain the force’s stated objectives.
