The Central Industrial Security Force has moved from a territorial supervisory structure to specialised functional sectors organised by installation type, according to a PIB release issued on November 1, 2026. The release says the restructuring was introduced with the concurrence of the Ministry of Home Affairs and that the new supervisory arrangements became operational that day.
The new commands include Power-I in New Delhi and Power-II in Kolkata; Coal in Ranchi; Steel in Bhilai; Petroleum and Natural Gas in Guwahati; West Coast Port in Mumbai and East Coast Port in Chennai; and a New Delhi sector covering government buildings, museums, monuments and mass rapid transit systems. They join the existing Aviation sectors and the Department of Atomic Energy and Department of Space sector.
Under the earlier territorial system, one sector headquarters could oversee more than 50 units spanning different industries. CISF says organising supervision by industry is intended to improve specialist guidance and coordination with the organisations it protects. These are the stated aims of the restructuring; the announcement does not establish measured reductions in incidents or disruption.
