The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence says it seized 5.6 kg of suspected heroin and arrested four people during an October 21 operation in Phagwara, near Jalandhar in Punjab. The Finance Ministry disclosed the operation in a release published on October 23.
According to DRI, officers acted on specific intelligence about people allegedly transporting narcotics on a public bus. They watched the area, intercepted a bus and identified four passengers for examination.
DRI said a search recovered five tape-wrapped packets from a backpack held by one of the suspects. Each contained two smaller packets, giving ten packets in total. Field tests on all ten returned positive results for heroin, according to the agency.
The agency said it seized the 5.6 kg consignment and arrested all four people under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act over their alleged involvement in its possession and transport.
The release describes the interception, field-test findings, seizure and arrests. It does not provide a court finding of guilt or a final judicial outcome. The reported substance identification and allegations therefore remain attributed to DRI.
The operation took place on October 21; October 23 is the publication date of the official account. The distinction matters when following later developments in the case.
