Environment Minister Bhupender Yadav called for closer coordination between government, industry and urban local bodies at CII's Circular Economy Conference in New Delhi on October 22. His remarks focused on putting waste-management frameworks into practice and addressing industry's compliance concerns, according to the ministry.
The statement is a report of the conference and implementation priorities. It should not be read as a notification creating a new recycling obligation on October 22.
The minister said more than 86,043 producers and 4,880 recyclers were registered under extended producer responsibility frameworks. The quoted official update dates those registration figures to October 12, 2026. He also cited nearly 499.60 lakh metric tonnes of waste processed across regulated streams. These are ministry-reported figures rather than an independently audited assessment in this report.
Yadav invited practical feedback on digital compliance, certificate-market operations and transaction timelines. He called for better coordination between producers and recyclers on recyclable material and capacity.
For solid waste, the minister emphasised technology, online monitoring, institutional capacity and financial sustainability of urban local bodies. He highlighted segregation into wet, dry, sanitary and special-care waste, alongside public participation.
The immediate news is the implementation discussion and request for industry engagement. The release does not establish that every local authority has completed these measures or resolve a particular company's compliance position.
