The National Human Rights Commission has sought reports from Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Maharashtra over media allegations of trafficking of girls. Its November 3 announcement says notices went to the Chief Secretaries and Directors General of Police of all three states, seeking detailed responses within two weeks.
The Commission acted on its own initiative after an October 30 media report alleging that girls from districts near the Madhya Pradesh–Rajasthan border were trafficked to Maharashtra. The report alleged misuse of adoption documents and changes to personal details to conceal identities.
These remain allegations described in a media report. The NHRC said that, if true, they raise serious human rights concerns. Issuing notices is a request for an official response, not a finding that the alleged acts have been proved or that any identified person is guilty.
The announced next step is the states' detailed reports within the specified two-week period. The release does not provide those responses or a concluded investigation. This report withholds identifying details of children and does not reproduce individual case accounts.
