The Department of Biotechnology will steer a systems and synthetic biology session at ESTIC 2026, scheduled for October 27–29 at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi, according to a Science and Technology Ministry release published by PIB on October 26. ICGEB New Delhi hosted a curtain-raiser bringing researchers and policymakers together ahead of the conclave.
The session discussed research applications in healthcare, agriculture, industrial biotechnology and sustainable development. Speakers also highlighted the role of artificial intelligence in biological research and the need to move laboratory discoveries towards practical use through research, development and scale-up. These were research priorities and potential applications, rather than announcements of newly approved treatments or commercial products.
Organised by CSIR under the guidance of the Office of the Principal Scientific Adviser, ESTIC is planned around 12 thematic areas, including biotechnology, advanced manufacturing, energy, AI, semiconductors and healthcare. The October 27–29 programme remains scheduled; the curtain-raiser does not establish outcomes from the forthcoming conclave.
