The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas says the government is establishing a National Hydrocarbon Technology Hub (NHTH) to coordinate research and development across the oil and gas sector. The announcement was reported from the opening of the 29th Energy Technology Meet in Goa on October 27, 2026.
According to the ministry, the planned hub will subsume the existing Centre for High Technology and have a broader mandate. It is intended to connect central public-sector enterprises, private-sector R&D, startups, MSMEs, academia, Centres of Excellence and research institutions around shared priorities.
The ministry linked the initiative to a National Oil and Gas R&D Vision developed after consultations. Its stated aims include reducing duplication and moving indigenous technologies towards development and deployment. These are announced institutional plans and objectives; the release does not give an operational start date for the hub.
