Mining officials from three Directorate General of Mines Safety regions in Chhattisgarh discussed inspections, workplace hazards and machinery safety at Bhilai on October 23. The meeting prepared for the 42 nd Annual Mines Safety Fortnight for non-coal mines, according to the Steel Ministry.
SAIL–Bhilai Steel Plant’s Dalli Rajhara Iron Ore Mines organised the first general-body meeting under DGMS Bilaspur Region-I, Bilaspur Region-II and Raigarh Region.
Officials called for compliance with statutory safety standards, proper inspection-team arrangements and systematic records of findings. They also discussed sharing practical safety measures and experience among participating mines. The zero-accident approach was an objective, rather than a reported accident-rate result.
Rowghat Executive Director Arun Kumar said production operations corresponding to a capacity of 3 million tonnes had commenced at the project. He described Rowghat as a greenfield mining project with planned annual capacity of 14 million tonnes. The operating stage reported at the meeting is distinct from the full planned capacity.
