The 61st meeting of the International Committee of Legal Metrology opened in New Delhi on October 26, with an international seminar and the first meeting session, the Department of Consumer Affairs said through PIB. The three-day programme runs until October 28.
Seminar discussions covered measurement requirements for electric vehicle charging equipment, mutual recognition of conformity assessments and the digitalisation of regulatory services. Experts also examined machine-readable technical recommendations and possible uses of artificial intelligence in measurement and verification. These were discussions, rather than announcements of newly binding EV charging rules.
Consumer Affairs Secretary Nidhi Khare outlined India’s existing work on government-approved test centres, the e-Maap portal and the national project for traceable Indian Standard Time. Her presentation described reform initiatives; the meeting notice does not establish a new consumer application deadline or a completed nationwide rollout.
An OIML strategy workshop is scheduled for October 27, followed by further meeting proceedings. Delegates are scheduled to visit CSIR–National Physical Laboratory on October 28.
