NIT Raipur and deep-tech startup Avkalan Labs have signed a memorandum of understanding for collaboration in computational engineering, advanced simulation and artificial intelligence, according to an October 23 Ministry of Education release carried by PIB Raipur.
The agreement provides a framework for joint research, industrial training, student internships and academic projects. Areas identified include computational mechanics, finite element analysis and multiphysics simulation. It also envisages industry-sponsored M.Tech and doctoral research, with possible joint publications, patent filings and technology commercialisation. These are planned activities, not completed research outcomes.
The partners will explore establishing a Centre of Excellence in Computational Mechanics at NIT Raipur. The proposed centre would focus on research and specialised training in fields including structural mechanics, engineering optimisation and high-performance computing. The release does not announce that the centre is already operating.
According to the ministry, Avkalan Labs originated as an incubatee at IIT Roorkee and moved its operational base to Raipur in 2025. The partnership is intended to strengthen Chhattisgarh's research and deep-tech ecosystem. No investment amount, number of internship places, application schedule or guaranteed jobs were announced.
