The Department of Commerce and EEPC India have held strategy discussions on expanding engineering exports, with access to affordable quality raw materials and better use of trade agreements among the priorities. An October 23 Commerce Ministry release describes a US$250 billion export goal for 2030; it reports discussions and ambitions rather than a newly implemented export policy.
Commerce Secretary Rajesh Agrawal said engineering exports exceeded US$70 billion in the first half of financial year 2026–27, nearly 20% higher than the corresponding period a year earlier. These figures refer to engineering exports, not India's entire merchandise-and-services export total.
Participants identified input-price volatility, supply disruptions, global overcapacity and trade-protective measures as risks to competitiveness. The discussions also covered quality-control orders, sustainability-related trade measures and climate-linked market-access requirements.
The ministry said officials sought closer industry–government cooperation and feedback across EEPC India's engineering panels. Joint Secretary Vimal Anand called for a white paper examining which products quality-control orders cover, why the orders were introduced and how they affect the industry. The release describes a request for that study, not its completion or the withdrawal of any order.
The release contains several separate figures. Its opening frames a US$250 billion goal for 2030, while Anand discussed the possibility of US$300 billion by that year. EEPC India chairman Pankaj Chadha said he expected engineering exports to exceed US$140 billion in the current financial year.
Those statements are goals or expectations, rather than achieved export earnings. The immediate development is the strategy dialogue and proposed further analysis of trade and input-cost constraints; the release does not announce a final package resolving them.
