Madhya Pradesh released its Fisheries Investment and Export Guidelines, 2026, at a fisheries investors’ and exporters’ conclave in Bhopal on October 23. The Union fisheries department also issued standard operating procedures aimed at developing inland states’ export potential, according to the official announcement.
The measures cover hatcheries, fish seed and feed, reservoir and cage fisheries, processing, cold chains, logistics and access to markets. Integrated cage-culture units were inaugurated virtually, while administrative approval was handed over for the development of 49 reservoirs and five Amrit Sarovars in Madhya Pradesh. Approval for those projects should be distinguished from completion of the works.
More than 1,000 fish farmers from across the state joined investors, exporters, cooperatives, start-ups and other participants. The event focused on connecting fish production with processing, quality assurance and export supply chains. The guidelines set a framework for investment; they do not establish that every proposed investment or expected livelihood benefit has already materialised.
