CSIR–Central Road Research Institute has signed a research agreement with Bharat Tiki Tar Shell India Private Limited to work on advanced materials and specialised pavement solutions for airports. The memorandum was signed at the Indian Airport Pavement Symposium in New Delhi on October 23, according to a Ministry of Science and Technology release published through PIB that evening.
The development concerns research and technology collaboration. The release does not identify a particular airport construction project, a contract value or a construction start date. Its immediate significance is the effort to connect laboratory research, material development and the practical needs of airport infrastructure.
The memorandum is intended to promote collaborative research, technology development and deployment involving advanced modified bituminous binders and specialised airport pavement solutions. CSIR-CRRI and Bharat Tiki Tar Shell also jointly organised the symposium at the institute’s auditorium.
The ministry describes a focus on performance-based pavements, resilience and sustainability. It does not report completed deployment of a new product or publish measured improvements in pavement life, costs or safety. Those outcomes should not be inferred from the agreement alone.
The event brought together regulators, airport operators, representatives of the armed forces, academics and pavement specialists. Its technical agenda covered four connected areas:
CSIR Director General N. Kalaiselvi inaugurated the symposium. CSIR-CRRI Director Ch. Ravi Sekhar emphasised translating scientific research into engineering solutions aimed at improving pavement durability, safety and sustainability, the ministry said. These are the stated objectives of the work, rather than independently verified results of the new partnership.
The signed memorandum is the concrete development reported so far. The ministry’s account does not set out a project-by-project implementation timetable or announce a completed national technical roadmap. Readers following airport infrastructure can consult the original PIB release for the agreement’s stated scope; future research findings or deployment announcements will be needed to assess specific applications and results.
