First sullage barge launched at Thane shipyard; two other keels laid

The first sullage barge, Yard 142, was launched at Suryadipta Projects' shipyard in Thane on October 26, 2026, the Defence Ministry reported on October 27. Keels were also laid for the third sullage barge, Yard 144, and the first bottom-opening dumb barge, Yard 148. Launching and keel laying are different construction milestones; the release does not confirm delivery or commissioning.

The ministry says contracts with the MSME shipyard cover four 300T sullage barges and three bottom-opening dumb barges, signed in November 2024 and January 2026 respectively. These are earlier contracts, not new orders awarded at the ceremony. The vessels are intended to support Indian Navy platform operations and MARPOL compliance.
