Three newly built Anganwadi centres have been dedicated to villages affected by NTPC's Talcher Thermal project in Odisha, according to a Ministry of Power release published on 28 October. One centre is in Padia Bhanga and two are in Lingrakata. The release places the inauguration on Tuesday, 27 October.
NTPC Talcher Thermal Executive Director Vijay Chand inaugurated the facilities. Developed under the Integrated Child Development Services framework, the centres have learning aids and recreational equipment, the release said. Their stated purpose is to support preschool education and access to nutrition and healthcare for young children and expectant mothers in the locality. These are the intended benefits of the facilities, rather than measured improvements in health or learning outcomes.
The announcement does not provide construction costs, centre-wise enrolment, staffing details or a timetable for individual services. The three centres should also be distinguished from the separate Talcher Thermal Stage-III power-project expansion mentioned in the same release: the centre openings do not establish completion of that power project.
