The National Human Rights Commission said on October 27, 2026, that it had issued an advisory on women's safety at work and in public spaces to Union authorities, the Railway Board and all states and Union territories. It urged implementation of its recommendations and sought action-taken reports within two months.
The advisory addresses eight areas: awareness of women's safety and sexual harassment, infrastructure, bystander intervention, policing, survivor support, cybercrime against women, long-term reforms and other measures. These are recommendations and a reporting request; the announcement does not confirm that authorities have completed the proposed measures.
The PIB release summarises the advisory. Specific operational requirements should be checked against the complete advisory rather than inferred from this summary.
