The health ministry launched Tobacco-Free Youth Campaign 4.0 in New Delhi on October 28, placing universities and colleges at the centre of a 60-day nationwide initiative. Minister Prataprao Jadhav inaugurated it at ABVIMS and Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital, the ministry said.
The campaign aims to prevent young people from starting tobacco use, encourage cessation and strengthen compliance with existing tobacco-control laws. Its activities include campus awareness, student and faculty participation, tobacco-free educational institutions and villages, and digital outreach.
States, Union Territories, educational institutions and local administrations are expected to help implement it. These are campaign objectives and planned activities; the launch does not demonstrate a measured reduction in tobacco use or confirm that every campus is tobacco-free.
