The Social Justice and Empowerment Ministry says it is supporting 764 senior citizen homes through the Integrated Programme for Senior Citizens, alongside 13 continuous-care homes, 17 mobile medicare units and three physiotherapy clinics. Its October 23 statement sets out the current programme's scale; it does not announce that all these facilities opened that day.
The programme is part of Atal Vayo Abhyuday Yojana. Grants go to eligible implementing organisations, including NGOs, state governments, panchayati raj institutions and local bodies, to establish and maintain care facilities. The ministry says the programme places particular emphasis on shelter and care for indigent older people.
The statement also describes annual support of ₹19.58 lakh for each designated Regional Resource and Training Centre. These centres support training, research, awareness, monitoring and coordination with implementing agencies. That institutional allocation is not a payment promised to each senior citizen.
The scheme's state action-plan component can support trained geriatric caregivers and other approved welfare interventions. States and Union Territories may use up to 20% of their allocated funds for state-specific programmes, subject to scheme provisions, and are expected to contribute their own resources.
The release describes funding channels and supported services. It supplies neither a fresh application window nor a guarantee of admission to any individual care home. Readers seeking a particular service need information from the relevant implementing organisation.
