The Education Ministry has extended the 2026–27 National Means-cum-Merit Scholarship Scheme application deadline to November 15. Eligible students must apply through the National Scholarship Portal after completing One-Time Registration, the ministry said on October 31.
Students who have already applied should ensure that the two verification stages are completed by their respective deadlines. Submission alone is not the completion of verification.
The scheme offers one lakh fresh scholarships annually to eligible Class IX students selected through state or Union Territory examinations. Renewal from Classes X to XII remains subject to academic requirements. Eligible students in state government, government-aided and local-body schools receive ₹12,000 annually through direct bank transfer.
For the selection test, the release specifies at least 55% marks or equivalent in Class VII, with a five-percentage-point relaxation for SC/ST students, and parental annual income not exceeding ₹3.50 lakh. The deadline extension concerns scholarship applications; it does not itself open a new state selection examination.
