A three-day national workshop on agricultural engineering opened at the College of Agricultural Engineering and Post Harvest Technology in Ranipool, Sikkim, on October 26. The 22nd annual workshop of the coordinated research project on plastic engineering in agricultural structures and environmental management runs through October 28, according to PIB Gangtok.
Scientists from ICAR institutes and agricultural universities are reviewing research achievements and considering future project proposals. The agenda includes protected cultivation, water management, agricultural structures and technologies suited to local growing conditions, including the North Eastern Himalayan region.
The programme combines technical sessions, industry presentations, field and laboratory visits, and discussions on research priorities. Farmers also had an opportunity to share their experience of using agricultural engineering technologies. The college, part of Central Agricultural University, Imphal, is hosting the meeting under ICAR-CIPHET, Ludhiana.
The announcement describes an ongoing research-review process. It does not establish that proposed projects have been approved, that new equipment is commercially available or that farm-income and environmental benefits have already been measured. No new cultivation prescription or subsidy entitlement is announced in the release.
