A social-finance initiative announced on October 22 aims to prepare 600 young people from economically weaker OBC households in Madhya Pradesh for overseas employment. NABARD subscribed ₹4 crore to NSDC’s first Zero Coupon Zero Principal issue on NSE’s Social Stock Exchange, the Skill Development Ministry said.
The programme’s estimated cost is ₹11.25 crore. Its planned funding mix assigns 15% to beneficiary participation, 35% to social-exchange financing and 50% to the Madhya Pradesh government, with the state component linked to successful international placements.
What makes this different from an ordinary stock-market issue? The instrument supports a social-purpose project and carries no conventional interest or principal repayment obligation. The funding is directed towards a social project, with reporting focused on its use and measurable outcomes.
The next test is delivery: turning the financing arrangement into training and verified job placements. The programme aims to create employment pathways; its success will depend on training delivery and actual placements.
