India’s eSanjeevani platform has conducted approximately 50 crore teleconsultations, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said in the October 25 edition of Mann Ki Baat. He presented the cumulative figure as an example of technology expanding access to doctors, including in remote areas.
The figure counts consultations, rather than establishing that 50 crore different people used the service. The address did not provide a state-wise breakdown or a time period for reaching the total.
Modi described cases in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Lakshadweep, Ladakh and Nagaland where local health workers or medical teams connected patients with doctors through the platform. These were examples cited in his address; they were not presented as an independent evaluation of treatment outcomes.
He also said nearly 1.9 lakh Ayushman Arogya Mandirs across the country had brought health facilities closer to communities, and highlighted regular health checks in rural areas. The teleconsultation total and the facility count measure different aspects of the health system.
The Prime Minister discussed the Sudha Gopalakrishnan Brain Centre at IIT Madras, which he said he inaugurated during a visit earlier this month. He described a plan to create detailed digital images of 100 human brains and make the resulting data available as an open research resource. This was a research goal, not an announcement of a new treatment.
The figures and descriptions above come from the Prime Minister’s address. The PIB transcript provides the original context for the cumulative consultation figure and the research plans.
