Austria and UNICEF signed a grant agreement on November 6 to improve water and sanitation services in Uganda’s Yumbe and Madi-Okollo districts, both of which host refugees. Austria committed €3.5 million and UNICEF said it would add €390,000, bringing the value of the three-year programme to €3.89 million.
UNICEF expects more than 72,000 people to benefit directly. The programme plans to build or repair water and sanitation facilities in schools, health centres and communities, with systems designed to cope with hazards such as flooding and drought. [evidence-1]
