The African Diamond Producers’ Association’s Council of Ministers approved a memorandum of understanding with India’s Gem & Jewellery Export Promotion Council in Luanda, Angola. India’s commerce ministry reported the decision on 5 November, after the association’s anniversary programme on 3 and 4 November.
The memorandum sets out areas for cooperation, including training in diamond sorting, valuation and manufacturing, as well as sharing technical expertise and building trade and investment ties. The ministry’s account describes approval of the memorandum and gives no details of a diamond supply contract.
India, which chairs the Kimberley Process this year, held a separate consultation in Luanda on 3 November. Participants discussed rough diamond sourcing and certification ahead of the plenary scheduled in New Delhi from 30 November to 4 December.
