The Union Cabinet approved the Pradhan Mantri Viksit Gram Swaraj Yojana for 2026–27 to 2030–31, the Ministry of Panchayati Raj announced on October 28. The centrally sponsored scheme has a stated outlay of ₹7,395.55 crore, comprising ₹4,869.48 crore from the Centre and ₹2,526.07 crore as the state share. These are approved scheme amounts, rather than a report of funds already released or spent.
The scheme will cover all states and Union Territories, including traditional rural local bodies in areas without Panchayats. It aims to strengthen local planning, training, digital accounting, auditing and public disclosure. The ministry set annual objectives of supporting 2.55 lakh Gram Panchayat Development Plans on eGramSwaraj and at least 2.55 lakh online audit plans through AuditOnline. These are programme objectives, not completed outputs.
States and Union Territories will submit annual action plans for appraisal and approval by the designated Central Empowered Committee. Existing departmental arrangements for delivering individual schemes will continue.
The announcement explicitly says no permanent posts will be created under the scheme. Need-based contractual personnel may be engaged at state, district and block levels, but the release is not a recruitment notice and gives no application process or vacancy timetable.
