Dated parliamentary work record

In Rajya Sabha question 1678 answered on 6 August 2024, Makan asked whether Bengaluru would be added to the four cities used for the higher salary-based limit in HRA exemption computations. The Finance Ministry described the then distinction between the four named cities and other places under Rule 2A, and stated there was no proposal to add Bengaluru. This records parliamentary scrutiny and a dated government response; it does not establish that the requested change was adopted. The salary-based percentage is a computation limit, not an automatic exemption of that percentage of every salary. Subsequent tax-law changes and individual eligibility were not verified. This historical work record is not current tax guidance or proof of a benefit delivered by the MP.
