India has constituted a banking-review committee chaired by former Central Vigilance Commissioner Suresh N. Patel, the Finance Ministry announced on October 30. Its tenure is six months.
The panel will examine banking rules, long-term capital needs, borrowing costs, priority-sector lending and an AI/digital roadmap with cyber safeguards. The remit includes regional rural and cooperative banks, alongside funding needs involving development finance institutions and NBFCs.
For banking-sector readers, the distinction is between a review mandate and enacted changes: recommendations remain to be made. This announcement does not itself change lending rules or policy rates.
