Telangana's state-level outreach workshop on free trade agreements brought together more than 300 representatives from export promotion councils and industry, according to a Commerce Ministry report published through PIB Hyderabad on November 2. The report also records industry representation from 31 locations. This is a report of participation after the workshop, updating the earlier announcement that described the event as scheduled and expected nearly 200 participants.
The Department of Commerce organised the programme with the office of Additional DGFT, Hyderabad, and Telangana's Industries and Commerce Department. ITPO was the knowledge partner, with support from the National Turmeric Board. Telangana Industries Minister D. Sridhar Babu inaugurated the session. Discussions addressed how local exporters, manufacturers and MSMEs could identify opportunities under India's trade agreements. The report does not announce a newly signed FTA, new tariff rates or export contracts secured at the workshop.
Officials and industry participants discussed agriculture, spices, pharmaceuticals, engineering, chemicals and food processing, alongside district-level export planning. The National Turmeric Board presented opportunities for turmeric and value-added turmeric products from Telangana. Additional DGFT R. Sampath Kumar highlighted links between the Export Promotion Mission and the Districts as Export Hubs initiative. These were export-development discussions, rather than evidence that a new district help desk, funded factory or overseas sale had begun operating.
The report also describes a Trade Connect ePlatform demonstration and sector-specific sessions on agriculture, gems and jewellery, chemicals and pharmaceuticals, engineering and electronics, and textiles. These sessions covered product- and country-specific opportunities, rules of origin, quality standards and market-entry requirements. Businesses still need to check the applicable agreement and product-specific conditions; attendance at the workshop does not itself establish entitlement to a preferential tariff.
