NASA has named Troy Asher director of its Armstrong Flight Research Center in Edwards, California, the agency announced on October 29, 2026. Asher had been serving as acting director since March, so the announcement confirms his appointment after an existing period of interim leadership.
As director, he will oversee the centre's workforce and operations across flight research, aircraft operations and development of aviation technologies. Armstrong also supports NASA's airborne science missions and experimental-aircraft research. The appointment announcement does not itself report a new aircraft's first flight, certification or entry into service.
Asher previously led Flight Operations at Armstrong and joined NASA in 2008 as a research test pilot and aerospace engineer. He succeeds Bradley Flick, who retired in March, according to NASA. The release does not give a separate future date for Asher to assume the director role.
